Over the years, many people have come through our doors from a variety of backgrounds and for a variety of reasons. Some just needed a place to stay for the night -- and stayed for years. Others came, convinced community life was their calling for life -- and left the next morning. We have never actively solicited new members: we know firsthand how difficult community living is in general, and living in this community in particular, and we wouldn't wish it on anyone -- who hadn't received a specific calling from the Lord. On the other hand, you don't have to join the community to come visit and get a taste of this peculiar calling, or have your eyes opened to possibilities for ministry that you hadn't considered before. We welcome visitors of all kinds -- those who just want to stop in for a quick tour, those who wish to pitch in and help for a short or long term service project, and those who are interested in an extended experience of community life. We do ask, however, that before you make your plans you get in touch with one of our Visitor Coordinators. Our house is overstuffed most of the time, and unexpected visitors have been surprised to discover we're all filled up.
If you're in the neighborhood and want to stop by for a tour, just call ahead to the Coordinator's Office at (773) 561-2450, ext. 2310 and we'll arrange a time.

If you're interested in arranging a visit to JPUSA that involves an over-night stay, please contact one of our Visitor Coordinators:
Those visitors who will be staying with us for more than just overnight and serving with the community for a short or extended time will be asked to fill out and send in a visitor form. (Throw in a picture of yourself if you like.)
Our visitors are provided meals and personal needs such as soap, toothpaste, etc. You'll want to bring along a phone card for long distance calls, your medical insurance card, money for local transportation, as well as some spending money. You will also need to bring a sleeping bag and a pillow. Other things you should bring are work shoes, a towel, and any special medical items you might need.
While you are visiting, you'll be placed in a Bible study "cell group" and be given a host to help you find your way among the beehive of activity that is JPUSA. The daily activities will typically consist of a combination of work/service projects -- such as helping with our feeding program, pitching in with our daily work schedules or work crews. Other opportunities might include street witnessing, Bible classes, and worship services.

One of the biggest areas of need for volunteers among the JPUSA ministries is Cornerstone Festival. There are a wide variety of needs for volunteers at the festival, from traffic control to medical professionals for the First Aid trailer to electricians and carpenters -- you name it. If you're interested in helping out (and receiving a discount on admission!) at Cornerstone, visit the Volunteer Page at the Official Festival Site, or contact Volunteer Coordinator Joan Davis for more details.
If you have a specific skill (such as in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work), and would like to donate time and labor at JPUSA wherever there are needs, or at the Cornerstone Festival, contact Scott Ingerson & Randy Johnson at (773) 561-2450, ext. 2310 & ext. 2112.
